Activism and civil society

We believe in the power of local organizations to make a difference

How we do it

Protecting those fighting on the front lines

In the contexts in which we operate, we always work in close collaboration with civil society organizations, through programs that support the commitment of activists engaged in the defense of human and environmental rights. We believe in the value of partnership and support for the political and social demands of our local partners, and we are committed to promoting campaigns for the defense of gender equality, nonviolent conflict resolution, freedom of expression and of the press in all the countries in which we operate. We believe that to defend and promote human rights it is necessary to first protect those who fight on the front lines for fundamental freedoms, and we try to give a voice to those who often do not have one through advocacy actions at national and international institutions.

ACTIVE PROJECTS

TANSEEQ

The "Tanseeq" project—meaning “coordination” in Arabic—is a bold initiative aimed at strengthening the relationship between Iraqi civil society organizations (CSOs) and government institutions. In the aftermath of the 2003 regime change, Iraq’s political landscape has been shaped by efforts to pacify deep divisions among political factions, military actors, and communities. This has often taken the form […]

TATWEER 2

These are times of high social conflict in Iraq, as evidenced by the mass protests across the country since October 2019. (E)MISSION (IM)POSSIBLE

The current climate emergency requires immediate and drastic action. The 2018 IPCC Special Report 'Global Warming of 1.5°C' clearly states that global climate neutrality must be achieved by 2050 to avoid irreversible effects and that a collective effort of all sectors of the economy and society is needed. Many climate action initiatives are aimed at […]
