DOVE OPERIAMO

Iraq

Un Ponte Per has been working in Iraq since 1991, when the 'Un Ponte per Baghdad' campaign was launched in solidarity with the civilian population affected by the First Gulf War. Today, more than 20 years after the US-led invasion of the country, Iraqi society continues to grapple with the lasting effects of that crisis and the dramatic consequences of the occupation by Daesh (Islamic State) from 2014 to 2017. UPP has been at the forefront of the response to all the humanitarian emergencies that have affected the country, working on the medical and psychological support of the affected populations and the reconstruction of the social fabric and inter-community dialogue. Since 2004 it has been supporting an extremely active civil society, and in particular its female and youth component, in demanding political change and greater economic opportunities, including through its work within the Iraqi Civil Society Solidarity Intiative (ICSSI) coalition. The support to activists and movements in demanding human and environmental rights continues to this day, as does the support to the development of local organisations and peace building.
